Day 4 Reflection

Another day of presenting and video making to enhance my technological prowess.
The most entertaining and interesting project of the day had to have been the Digital Storytelling. Math was my assigned topic for this project and was completed with flying colors thanks to a team that excelled beyond most. With humor, a fine story, and an ideal mathematical dilemma the overall story composed was marred only by audio/video lag. Something to remember and learn from when integrating this into the classroom. As we were introduced to the new site I found the page rather easy to navigate (empty links aside) and easy on the eyes making it a rather pleasant experience. I was one of the few that rode over the user-name/password portion of the site without falling through the gaps. Looking forward to seeing this site at its full potential.

Day 3 Reflection

I really must say, today was a wonderfully beneficial day. Tux Math?! How have I not known of this before? Its uses for children learning elementary math are astounding. I was also reminded of the initially linguistically oriented freerice.com by the spectacular Luke Garcia. The sites subject matter, however, has expanded from mere attempts to raise ones vocabulary to attempts to raise ones competence in Math, Geography, Chemistry, Art, and even Languages such as French, German, Italian, and Spanish.  All the while assisting those in need with grains of rice for every correct answer. Awesome... Now, the number of open source downloads also astounded me. I never really dug so deep in that territory before. I understand that I need to dedicate a fairly large portion of my time in order to pinpoint  downloads that would be most ideal for the teachers. Lastly, the screenshot process was probably the most entertaining portion of the class as I've never actually worked with the tools to do it. I definitely learned that downloadable tutorials will be a marvelous tool to go into the school with as it allows me to free up time by not having to re-teach any specific computer-based task. I do, however, need to find a way to quicken that movie-saving process.....

Day 2 Reflection

Through the use of g-mail accounts, real-time spreadsheets, google-earth's time slider, and lit trips I have been able to add a wonderful variety of options and tools to my workbench for the upcoming year. I especially enjoyed the possibilities of the active spreadsheet as it's a new concept that I haven't been formerly introduced to before. The rather unexpected video project taking up the majority of our afternoon was a rather pleasant (troubleshooting) activity, however, the lack of communication was sadly evident. If anything, something to take notes on and learn from was the overall theme of each project. Thus far I recall, time management, workplace behavior, project planning, and teamwork. All vital in establishing a more productive, organized, and stable work environment. Looking forward to the next two tomorrow morning.
